Donate to YMCA Operation Backpack Today
YMCA Operation Backpack has become more than just a back-to-school drive event; it has become a beacon of light for many Houston-area families. With the help of our partners ABC-13, H-E-B, KSBJ, Shoe Carnival and Home Depot Kidde, the YMCA is aiming to collect more than 55,000 backpacks for the upcoming school year. These backpacks filled with supplies will give students the opportunity to succeed in the coming year.
In Texas, nearly 59% of families live below the poverty line, and it’s nearly impossible for some families to dedicate enough of their income to school supplies. In fact, most of these families will struggle to pay the average $120 to $150 it costs to send their children to school.
By uniting with partners, sponsors and donors through this initiative, Houston-area students are prepared to start the school year off right. Developing youth and supporting education is a priority for the Y. Operation Backpack will help families send their children to school across 36 Houston school districts.
Donations for this effort are still being taken online. Click here to donate today.
